Isabelle Whitfield was a Port Angeles teacher that moved here in 1942. The subjects she taught were Spanish, English and Journalism while at Roosevelt High School and then at the “new” Port Angeles High School in 1956. While at Roosevelt High School she was directing students in the publication of the school newspaper titled, “Teddy Growls,” a bi-weekly edition.
Isabelle studied at the University of Washington, Puget Sound College and a university in New Mexico. While teaching, Isabelle was conscientious about she spent and saved funds. She was able to set up three separate estates; one which was given to Clallam County School Retiree’s Association (CCSRA) to be given out as mini-grants (for teachers) and scholarships (for students).
While in Port Angeles, Ms. Whitfield was an active member of the following organizations:
Isabelle was dedicated to providing students with experiences in both the classroom and at events that helped reinforce skills.
The Clallam County School Retirees Association manages the Isabelle Whitfield Scholarship for students attending Peninsula College.
Additionally the Washington State School Retirees Association hands out scholarships with a few stipulations. If you are planning a career in the field of education, click the button below and see if you qualify!
